Commercial photographer and photographic artist based in Australia
Sara Maiorino is an Australian photographic artist and commercial photographer based in Mparntwe (Alice Springs). Their work explores themes of belonging, nostalgia, community and celebrating the ways in which people resist systems, while forging meaningful connections.
Often a way to explore Maiorino’s personal experiences, their conceptual documentary approach uses bold colour to convey their subjects. Their three major projects include an exploration of the gender labour disparity in Australia, trans and non binary futures, and Italian Australian diaspora.
With a background in social work, Maiorino approaches photography with a strong foundation in ethics and community. Since leaving the profession to find a more values-aligned way of working, Maiorino now uses visual storytelling to support ethical, sustainable, and community-based projects.
Specialising in fine arts and community projects, Maiorino’s skillset spans portraiture, fashion, install and exhibition documentation, event documentation and artwork archival.
Maiorino’s clients include the National Library of Australia, SBS, AAP, Australian Geographic, Magpie Goose, Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation, Desart, NPY Women’s Council, Central Australian Aboriginal Congress, Museum and Art Gallery of the NT, Araluen Arts Centre and Laundry Gallery.
Maiorino has had their work published in Vogue Australia, Australian Geographic, the Design Files, Peppermint Magazine, Capture Magazine, the Age, the National Indigenous Times and SBS news.
Maiorino was the winner of the inaugural Northern Territory Art Award in 2024, a finalist in the Perth Centre for Photography Iris Award in 2023, the Australian Photography Awards in 2021 and the Alice Prize in both 2024 and 2026. Their work is held in private collections around so called Australia.
